I have been paid too much...

This has happened to me before, this time it's quite a large payment (£3+k).

I am going to ring work tomorrow to let them know that a mistake has been made. I wish they would let me keep the money as I have been so honest! They will offer to correct the money in monthly installments or take it from me in one go.

I'm feeling a bit nauseous, as if I'd been caught with my hand in the till.

What would you do if the same had happened to you?

Fess up. I'd have a miserable Christmas if I didn't, and they'll thank you for it. Not much of a consolation, I know. But it's the right thing to do.

It has happened to me, and I paid it back in a lump sum. Its easier that way, you know what's yours then.

You're not paid by Capita by any chance are you?

I would tell the asap and pay it back quickly as DDMB says.

Maybe it's a Christmas bonus though?????????????????

I went to work today and told my line manager. I expect payroll to contact me in the next few days with arrangements to pay it back.

They were supposed to give me a lump sum of £37.00 - they just left out the decimal point.

My dh was paid his expenses in March and got paid his own of £2k-ish, and his colleauges of £4k ish. He told them immediately - as did his colleauge and though they paid te otehr guy, they never took the money back from dh. He's informed his manager, and for the first couple of months sent weekly reminders to payroll - but after 10 e-mails he stopped bothering. He can't pay it back, because he doesn't know where to pay it to, and they would probably lose it and then start asking him for it back. So it's sitting in my mortgage offset account reducing our loan every month!

And he works for one of Europes largest finacial companies, which many of you probably have life insurance or investments with.
