Brief history:

Trained as a journalist
Worked as an online / print journalist for 5 years
Worked in TV - as a researcher and then a producer - for 5 years
Have been a SAHM basically, but done little bits of teaching (media) and youth work on and off over the last 3 yrs since DD was born.
Left when i had my son, but was bored and thinking about a career change anyway...

I don't want to work full time as I love being around for my son. I'm not keen on doing freelance journalism as my contacts have dried up quite a bit since those days and I'm not sure how I would go about getting back into it and if I could make any money at all from it. TV work isn't an option with a small child. I have the opportunity to do a couple of days a week youth work. The money isn't great, but the job sounds fun and challenging, is fairly local and they will pay for me to do a post grad diploma in youth work if I want to. Should I do it?

Pros:
Part-time, term-time hours
Local-ish
I'm good at this sort of thing
It's something to put on my CV
I'm not 100% sure I want to do youth work in the long term (but have no other bright ideas either)

Cons:
Money is crappy
It's a step down from my former high powered glam career
maybe I should use this time to do a Masters or perhaps set up my own buisness? Something lookinmg into the long term, iyswim

Conufuzzled and need your help!

Should have said 'left my TV job when I had DD...'

I'd go for it provided it covers your childcare costs.

The longer you are out of the job market altogether, you will lose your confidence. This way you will get out of the house, its p/t and if you don't like it and leave its not going to be a blot on your CV because its not in your chosen field.
