Does anyone manage social media or website for a small charity?

If so, do you have any top tips please? I've taken on this extra job role recently with zero training and am just feeling my way around...but would really appreciate any help in term of increasing reach, extrapolating data from Facebook and Instagram and presenting it clearly to senior management quarterly, what are the main things to focus on etc?

I also get sent SEO reports from our website people and it's like reading a foreign language! Not sure which information is the best to focus on?

Thank you Smile

I guess a fundamental question is...can I do my 6hr a week social media job without getting involved in the website? Or are they intrinsically linked? I've tried to stay away from the website side of things and left it to the admin and web hosts, but keep getting pulled in...

Yes OP I have been in a similar position at a charity I was passionate about and I did probably give too much. Your employers will never say no to you doing more than you should. But if it becomes a habit then they might come to expect it of you... it becomes a baseline to measure by. I agree the website is pretty separate to the social media... I think you should tell them you can only do the SM side of it. The website is a whole other kettle of fish, with entirely different aims (Obviously it's very linked in many ways too).

  • @EmpressWitchDoesntBurn thanks for all the help too. Yes you're right - I'm just expected to understand the reports and help increase traffic to our website. Feedback to senior management quarterly with data...but I need to understand it first.*

Ok, then that’s definitely the SEO people’s responsibility to make sure you can understand it.

As for Ad Grants, I think if I were you I’d hold off for a bit until you’ve got everything else sorted. Good luck!

Activity on the site will help with seo (so content, blogs, quality links etc). But it’s all down to the SEO agency pulling its finger out and giving you the stats you need and their recommendations.

We were paying £££ to agencies for hee-haw. So I got rid and did absolutely nothing for a couple of months (as I was working on other projects). No difference to visits or leads. I’m now actively working on it and stats have gone up. It’s not alchemy!
