I applied for a role expecting it to be in a Northern office. The company are a bit wishy washy but would be a good stepping stone. Now looking into train tickets and an annual price of 15k?! So, does anyone have any advice or bright ideas? I think it's 2-3 days in the London office and the rest from home. Office hours 9-5, cheapest and time efficient ideas gratefully received!

Indeed @HundredMilesAnHour my OH did this for many years. But his employer always paid all expenses (so travel/accomodation/restaurant meals), and booked everything for him. To expect an employee to cover those costs is just unreasonable.

Ah, I see. Yes, if you're getting a London wage and it's a good job that doesn't sound unreasonable. You might find lodging as a "week day" lodger worth your while. I know someone who did this, they rented a room cheaply on the basis that there were only using is a few nights a week, mid week. I've no idea how they found this though, but once you've started, you never know, there maybe be someone working in the London office who'd be interested in a one or two night a week lodger.

As someone else posted it might be cheaper to find accomodation than to buy an annual ticket

Pitch for 5 days in Leeds then go from there - Don't ask, don't get 😀

I did it for a few months when there was an urgent project that I wanted to be involved in. The 7am train from Leeds got into King’s Cross for 9am and I stayed in a Premier Inn next to the office for a night or two before getting the 5:30pm train back up to Leeds.
If they are willing to pay for the cost of the trains and hotels, I’d do it. I became a master of sleeping on the train, so for me the cost would be the worrying part.
