Working 2 jobs - doable?

I have a full-time wfh job, but am considering going for a part time wfh job on top. It would enable me to stop claiming benefits and I'd be in a much stronger financial position to save for a house.

The second job has a flexible attitude and measures performance on output, usually any time of day is fine as long as deadlines are met. Howevwr occasionally I would need to attend some meetings during the workday, which may well clash with my full-time job.

Am I crazy to consider this, or should I forget about it?

Depends how many meetings in either job and how much autonomy you have over saying yes or no to meetings or organising meetings yourself. Only you know if you'll potentially get in trouble. I managed it successfully for six weeks but I have very few meetings with either so got away with it.

What does your main jobs contract say about additional jobs? Many contracts have a clause about not allowing other jobs or other jobs needing approval.

I doubt your full time job would accept you doing other paid work during your contracted hours, even just occasionally for meetings etc.

All valid points, thanks. I'll have a think.

What would your plan be for clashes? Annual leave from job one?

I take holiday hours from my full time job or work over on other days to make the time up to accommodate some rare irregular commitments for the second job. It is doable. You have to be super organised, which took me some time to master!

I'm not confident I can juggle commitments for both, tbh! I think I'll pass on the idea and look for ways to increase my skills with my current job, and work towards an eventual pay increase.

That does sound like a vastly less stressful solution. Good luck.

I have tried working 2 part-time jobs....I had a 3 day job and wanted 2 extra days work so picked up a second job to do that. I assumed that 5 days per week would be no different to anyone working a normal 5 day week in a full time job.

However, it hasn't been like that at all. Much more stressful and every week you are mentally switching from one workplace to another. During the summer I was on holiday from my first job and had a chance to work more hours at the second....now I have decided to leave and work full time at the second job instead. So much simpler, much nicer, I personally wouldn't recommend doing 2 jobs unless there is no other choice available.

I work three part time jobs and love it. However bad any of them are, as in, on a bad day, you know you'll be out of there soon! It suits me perfectly. I've done it for years. I also love the variety. Thankfully my first job share is no longer a nightmare.

You'll pay more tax on what you earn in your second job.
