Would you be annoyed about this?

In my current workplace I originally started at entry level there- on purpose. I'd come from a very stressful managerial job and wanted to take a step back.

Not long after I'd started they fired a couple of their managers and one resigned and they realised that I'd had managerial experience in the past and pressured me in to going for a managerial post. I was really reluctant to but as a result of this (not sure if they thought I was just playing hardball) they increased my pay and let me choose my hours so I went for it.

During lockdown they effectively demoted me stating 'a change of business needs'. I was hurt by this but not willing to go full time due to the crazy hours of shift work involved and lack of childcare to do so, so I accepted the new position.

Now a couple more managers have resigned (it's a poorly run place and I am looking for other jobs) but the general manager keeps asking me to take on manager shifts and I've said no but they keep asking so I've agreed to do it today but I feel very used.

Would you be annoyed over this? And what would you do/say?

If its not in your contract I wouldn't have done the extra hours unless it has been updated by you and the employer that you can at a increased pay. However that you have already agreed to do the extra managerial roles just have to tough it out. If you feel its too much, I suggest talking to a doctor about work related stress and maybe you can get some sick leave off? or if this continues, maybe look for another job while your working so you have a backup for support and if you want to resign.

No I wouldn’t be annoyed as I wouldn’t have agreed to something that I didn’t want to do.

It's so hard to say no continually, some find it easier than others, try not to feel bad about it - given you have agreed to working as a manager, I'd see it as temporary - I'd just keep looking for something else and walk away when you land a better job.

@Whattodonow5 So they demoted you from the managerial position they’d pushed you into (including pay cut?), and then push you to do the same role for the lower pay/position?

I think that’s a flat no, I’d find it hard to even be polite about it tbh the way you’ve been treated.
