Office in bedroom tips

I've just been offered a fully wfh job. The only reasonable place to put a desk is my bedroom.

Anyone got any tips on doing this? How to switch off despite your computer being there ect.

It's where mine is, but fortunately it's an L shaped room so it's tucked away. Would a screen to put round it help? Also discipline in turning it off at the end of the day!

Putting you computer adjacent to your bed and facing away helps, or if you have a space where you have a gap in your room (i.e nothing is occupying that space). However to get away from work, really depends on you and how you relax so you can "switch off from work mode".

Try to arrange your desk so that you don't have your bed in the background on video calls. It looks more professional. One way to do this is to put your desk in the place a bedside table would go. Then slightly angle your laptop away from the bed so that it looks to the side wall away from the bed. Watch out for back reflections in mirrors if you have any.

I find it awful to get out of bed and straight to work in the same room. At the very least, eat breakfast away from your desk. If you have a garden go walk round it. Do a fake commute around the block to get some fresh air.

You don't have to have "office" furniture. You can have furniture that fits in with the style of your bedroom.

I'd probably get a lightweight sheet to cover it with so I can literally hide work from my eyes. Obviously turning it all off so nothing is on standby and whirring all night is important.

I work from my bedroom. I don’t find it an issue at all as once I’m done working I don’t go back to my bedroom until I’m going to bed. So I have plenty of time away from the room ifysim. My desk is currently my dressing table but I’ve got a new desk on order which work are paying for. Looking forward to getting that as it’s deeper so will be more comfortable set up wise.

Some good tips here, especially the fake commute in the morning. You can probably put a background blur on when you are on video calls.
I have a cork board propped up by the desk, for notes etc. At the end of each day (or at a minimum, every Friday) I write my to do list for the next working day and put it on a cork board which I then take OUT of the bedroom and put somewhere I don't see it much. Mentally this really helps!
The biggest problem I have is wanting to get into bed to work, where it is cost and warm. Totally shagged my back. Don't make that mistake!

I think it's really unhealthy unless you can find a way to separate work from your relaxing / sleeping space. I've looked at all sorts and not found a real solution yet. For me, something like this wall desk or this bureau are good because you can shut it all away.

Also agree with a pp about positioning your desk / screen so your bed isn't visible for professionalism.

Second the bureau suggestion so you can close it all up and out of sight out of mind.

These are all useful suggestions, thanks everyone!
I looked into something fold away/close the door but it's not practical as I'll have 2 monitors so I've decided I'm going to get an IKEA pax wardrobe and do a bit of diy on it.
