Interview in the morning, don’t want to go!

I have an interview in the morning, known about it for around nine days, at first really excited, now can’t be bothered, don’t really want the job now.
I’ve found a couple of things out since the invite, first it’s full time confirmed ( was possibly 30 in the advert) which I would prefer.
Also, the biggy , would be contracted to work every single Saturday with split days off. In high summer, every weekend.
After lockdowns and not seeing half my family for the best part of a year I feel they are expecting too much.
AIBU ? Should I just not bother turning up ?
Aargh!

Don’t go, waste of everyone’s time

IveNameChangedAgain2020 · 02/08/2021 23:02

I would call and let them know. Tell them the contacted ours now won't work for you. You never know they might still encourage you to apply and be more flexible?

Three0fivepointfour · 02/08/2021 23:02

Seeing as it’s tomorrow I’d probably go. You never know, they may advertise the perfect job fir you in the future. If you’ve knocked them back in a rude way it wouldn’t be great. It’s all good practice. If you get the job you don’t have to take it.

floofycroissant · 02/08/2021 23:06

Call/email and turn down the opportunity. There's no need to be rude and not turn up.

thinkingaboutitall · 02/08/2021 23:07

Are you employed or not?

If employed, cancel the interview.

If you’re claiming universal credit or other benefits, aren’t you supposed to attend all job interviews? You don’t really have a good reason not to attend this.

If you’re unemployed, any income is better than no income and you can use this job as a stepping stone to secure your dream job. It’s easier to get a job once you’re already in employment. This will also allow you to hone your interview skills and boost your confidence @ work

Cazz246 · 02/08/2021 23:16

@thinkingaboutitall
I’m not working, but not claiming benefits, so this has nothing to do with benefits.
If I choose not to attend I will have valid reasons, that’s sod all to with the Job Centre.

I’m not going to be rude and just not turn up , although that’s how I feel!
I think at this late stage I will go to be polite.

I’d go and use it as practice, if nothing else - maybe with the pressure off (knowing you don’t want the job anyway) you can perfect some generic responses.

Having said that, what’s come to light that makes you certain the hours are different to initially advertised? Is there definitely no room for negotiation at all? I’d bring it up anyway, what have you got to lose?

Cazz246 · 02/08/2021 23:43

@Dyrne the advert said the hours could be full time or 30 hrs TBC.
The invitation for interview confirmed it’s full time, when I accepted I thought oh well it only another day, alas, I regret that train of thought now !
I’m not young and haven’t worked full time for many years, always part time, the jobs only round the corner so no commute is the trade off, or so I convinced myself!

It’s fine to phone and cancel in the morning. Much better than going for a job you don’t want. Just tell them that full time hours don’t suit. Don’t waste your own time!

LtDansleg · 02/08/2021 23:48

If you definitely don’t want the job then let them know. Otherwise actually go?

MrsWooster · 03/08/2021 00:03

Why not go, and be very clear thAt you will only be prepared to do 30hours and1/4 Saturdays (or whatever works for you). Chances are you won’t get it but it’ll be good practice and they MAY just think that you’re just what they need and make it work to your mutual benefit.

Cazz246 · 03/08/2021 00:08

@MrsWooster. I like your train of thought! Thanks that’s what I’m going to do, I have nothing to lose. I have never been to an interview and been assertive as to what I want as I always thought it would cost me any consideration. As I’m not bothered it may make them realise that a work life balance is actually important!

@Three0fivepointfour. Thanks for asking. Well I went, and ended up being interviewed for a more senior post which was offered and accepted today!
Just goes to show, when you least expect something!
