Career change after architecture?

Given the high numbers of female architecture students and the low numbers of female architects in senior roles, there must be a LOT of ex-architects amongst you. What do you do now? I’m looking for inspiration for a fulfilling career change, which lets me use some of my skills (technical and project management rather than design) and gives me flexibility around DC.

Sorry you’ve not had any replies @Notjustamum10: I’ve a friend who is rather concerned about her DD’s prospects given how few seem to make it, relatively. Yet it looks like such an exciting career to a talented 16-year-old.

Not an architect, but I think it’s common to move over to client-side, working for developers. Although that’s not likely to be fewer hours, just more money!
I am pondering the same question but am an engineer, so watch for answers with interest. Client-facing construction industry can be hard going, esp with a young family.

My friend became a planning officer after architecture. I think quite family friendly hours, not sure about the fulfilling bit (no offence planning officers!)

Thanks all for the responses. I’ve had a successful and rewarding career in architecture @lomaamina, so don’t let my post put off a talented 16 year old! I would happily do it all over again, but need a change to focus on my family. Part-time hours / job share / self employed work would be ideal. Teaching or graphic design may be an option, or client-side consultancy, but not sure where to start. . .

Hmm I've been having similar thoughts OP! Ive been an architect for over 20 yrs and feel like I'm done....I have 2 kids who only seem to need me more as they get older, meanwhile working alongside much younger people who seem like they can do better and work much harder than me....for less salary!

But I don't have any answers. I need my regular salary every month (and it needs to be a certain amount that isn't going to happen in anything else?) I'm terrible at being a manager. I do nice drawings but I'm not sure they're good enough to make a business out of. I even feel that having specialised in one area I can't even really go out on own doing nice house extensions etc as not really experienced.

Ive wondered about maybe just going freelance - but then I get back to remembering I need the monthly income and why would anyone hire me...

One of my friend's dcs did architecture at Uni and was recruited for a sales consultancy position in a high end furniture company - they wanted someone who had a good idea of design and could advise clients properly - they're paid over £50k a year. Not sure if that would be enough but just a different option to consider.
