Hello! So I’ve finally got a job after being a sahm/student for years!

i was wondering if anyone else works in a school who has children. I would just like to know roughly what universal credit are going to do to me 🙈 I’ve done a calculator but it’s coming up about 1k more a month than I’m getting now as a student getting a little help from UC! It can’t be right surely?!

I’m so excited for my first real job in years but also terrified I won’t be able to afford to live with the childcare etc. I am completely alone, no family to help and my DD’s dad doesn’t see them/help financially so everything is always a big worry to me 🙈

I know it’s rude to ask people’s wages but if anyone working in a school for a low wage (15kish) and single could let me know what I’m roughly expecting, just to put my mind at ease, I would be very grateful 😊❤️

have you looked whether it is pro rata
so 15K over 52 weeks or school term only?

To do any calculation, you'd need to tell people the rough ages of your kids and do you have any health issues, how many hours you're working etc.

Whatever net wages are reported in your monthly UC assessment period are taken into consideration. I assume you have children, If you claim rent element then the first £293 of earnings is disregarded then each pound above that reduces your total UC entitlement by 63p. If you don't claim the rent element then £513 is disregarded before each pound of earnings reduces your total Uc by 63p.
There is absolutely zero point asking others or comparing the amount of UC that others get because everyone's situation is completely different - some will have more kids, some will claim rent, some rents will be higher than others, therefore everyone's UC award will be different depending on their individual circumstances. If you have a working partner you will already be getting the disregard ( work allowance ).
