After advice. Im a dental nurse and getting fed up of it now. Has anyone on here done this job then gone onto to do something else. Want to stay in the nhs but not the dental side of it. Don’t want to be a dentist or hygienist.

What are your interests? Are you looking for a similar banded job or climbing the ladder? Do you like working with kids? Do you like teaching? Do you want to return to study for a new job, or side step into something else?

I know the NHS have a great deal of apprentice type roles. Not just in estates type roles either.

I like working in the nhs and wouldnt really wanna be being stuck in an office. Probably looking to side step into something else couldnt afford to go to uni so something with on the job training ideally. Ive signed up for the nhs jobs sites for trainee jobs but not much comes up.

Without knowing your interests or what area you do/don't want to work in, here are some ideas:

  • play specialist
  • ODP
  • Midwifery assistant
  • Clinical research- especially in a dental capacity
  • phlebotomist
  • Radiography/X-ray assistant

Thanks so much. Will look into those. I know theres loads of jobs in the hospitals but dont know what half of them are.

I would set up job alerts and if something that you think might suit you comes up maybe just look into the role further and what it entails? You'll have lots of transferable skills re: working with the public in a healthcare setting, aware of the hygiene side, importance of confidentiality, working with other HCPs, the sort of computer systems a lot of places will use etc.

Thanks. Its so hard to change jobs isnt it. Knowing what to do.

Yeah, remember though you don't have to stay anywhere if it's not for you, I think as long as you go into a job with best intentions then even if you look for something else pretty quickly then it's not a problem.

I guess if you're interested in NHS jobs it falls into a few categories:

Shift work?
What setting ie hospital/Community?
Future career plans, to be a nursing associate you usually need at least a year in a caring role to be considered, would be happy to try for HCA or similar etc?
