Background: I'm fairly 'emerging' in my field, so have limited experiences of things like this happening.

I applied for three jobs all with the same deadline. I got interviews for all three, one day after the other.

Say I get offered one job before I've heard back from another, and I know I'm due to hear back within the next 24 hours. What do I do? Do I say that I need 24hrs to think about it? Do I accept and 'hope' I don't get a job offer from the other ones?

For more clarity: My first interview is with the job that is the least well paid, which makes this a bit trickier!

It's perfectly reasonable to say 'thank you very much, could you confirm the package - salary, holiday, pension etc by email and ill let you know as soon as possible.'

rainbowfairylights · 17/07/2021 21:48

@badpuma Thanks, this is helpful wording to have on-hand. Doesn't help that the least well paid is also the organisation I already have a relationship with, which would make me feel extra guilty if I had to turn it down!

It's absolutely fine to say you're having other interviews too and while you absolutely loved the place the other places are great too & you would Iike to hear back before making a final decision.

It's lucky the interviews are so close together as making them wait a few days is fine. At least it worked for me.

After all they are interviewing multiple candidates too!

Congrats for getting 3 interviews & good luck.

It's also fine to give them the opportunity to increase their offer.

Yes, my friend always negotiates salary and package. I don’t - I just went back to work after a big gap and accepted what I was offered but that was because I was desperate and just grateful to be offered a job!
Consider commuting time and hours, and I would also advise that unless the salary difference is significant, I’d accept the job where I felt most comfortable. Trust your instincts.
Good luck!

Thanks everyone!

It's not the kind of sector where you can negotiate salary tbh or I would.

Least well-paid job is a 30 min drive regularly, middle job is WFH and then a much longer commute for specific events, best paid job is also WFH and then a biiiig commute for specific events. So not sure if that makes much of a difference.

WFH permanently, other than for specific events? Would that suit you?

Yes down to the ground - it's more common than going into the office every day in my line of work, and I have my own home office (pre-covid) Smile

You say, oh wow thank you! I'd like to see the package and contract details before accepting officially but I'm really excited!

The hope the others move fast do you can make an informed decision

Very good point @tartanblanketdog

I verbally accepted the first offer but not yet had a formal offer nor accepted it, then I was honest and asked at the subsequent interview how long it would take to hear as I had an offer on the table, sure enough I heard back quickly from the second as they knew I needed to get back to Job A. I asked to have a discussion about the role before accepting, then went back to job A to say I had another offer and asked to discuss the role. Met with both, discussed the job, package, salary (I can't see how any job wouldnt discuss the salary, even civil service I try to negotiate it, it's a very reasonable discussion to have). Picked my favourite and went with that one. It's not an uncommon scenario and I think honesty where possible is helpful (though only when you actually have an offer).
