Hi

To cut a long story short, I've been working PT since Autumn but desperate to get back to work FT. DD is now a toddler & happy in childcare & we need the extra cash.

I've been applying for roles & had an interview last week. I was offered the job yesterday but I am interviewing for another job on Saturday (my preferred choice, more chance for flexible working/part WFH/much small company), but the company who have offered want me to come back with a decision by this afternoon.

They originally said Mon but changed their minds & I feel pressured to make a decision. If I am going back FT I need to sort DD nursery out As will need to increase days so I need to know for definite.

I'm worried about accepting today & then being offered the 2nd job after Saturday & then rescinding my offer with the 1st company. I don't want to get sued, I know I'll most likely burn bridges.

I have no clue what to do. Any advice?

Hi sorry I’m probably too late, but if you accepted the job I would still interview tomorrow anyway. If you’re offered the second preferred job and it still sounds better then I’d politely decline the first (tell them you’ve had a change in circumstances, etc). If they’re a decent employer they should be ok with this, if a little annoyed. I’m not a lawyer, but I’d imagine worst case they might be able to hold you to the notice period, but in reality no company wants to have someone start for a month and then leave unless they’re truly spiteful (they’re more likely to offer it to one of the other interviewees). Would working the notice period cause issues with the start date for the second job?
