Will try to keep this as vague as possible to not be outing... this is just a general question...

Someone I know has a business and it is registered to their home address on companies house. On companies house there is another business registered to their home address in the name of someone else who i know for certain does not live there and never has, but is related

Is this a normal thing to do? If so ignore me. If not then what would be the benefit of someone's business being registered to an address they don't live at?

It’s legal, Directos don’t have to use their own home address as the registered office. I would say it’s not very usual for it to be someone else’s home address. One reason could be if the Directors own home address were temporary or shared, and they didn’t want official post to come to their home.

Perfectly legal. Sometime house deeds have covenants stating you can't register a business at the hone address, and this is common if renting. Nothing untoward.

Nothing dodgy - just practical and sensible- we don't want to register our home details on Companies House - a public website that reveals how much money you earn each year through your accounts - we'd rather stay relatively private, so we pay a company that fulfils the address function for us.
Of course we have mail redirection to our home address)

Friends business is registered at my address. She’s “famous” and doesn’t want her address on the internet. I get a bit of mail for her which I pass on.

I am self employed and a number of my clients use my home address as their registered office for a number of reasons, it's perfectly legal.
