Have you ever chased up after an interview after not hearing back?

I interviewed for a job at the beginning of the week and felt it went really well. More interviews were taking place on the Tuesday and I was told that there would be a second interview on Wednesday (I'm assuming this week!) if I was successful, but I have not heard anything, not even to say that I wasn't successful.

I was really hoping I would get a second interview but I'm taking it that I wasn't successful. I'm tempted to send an email to chase up but at the same time feel like is there really any point and to just leave it and accept my fate.

Has anyone ever chased for an answer after an interview before, after not hearing back?

Yes. It's always been "not enough people have signed off on the first round choices yet". Unless it was second round choices. Well, sometimes you have to read between the lines a little, but that's what they mean.

They will have no problem at all with you asking.

The interview was with the hiring manager and they also contacted me directly to set up the interview. I don't want to come across as too eager so I'm not sure of the best way to ask.

Yes but it's never been a good outcome. In my experience they let you know pretty sharpish if they are interested in taking things further although there may be the odd time when they are delayed due to, eg, holidays.

Yes I followed up after not hearing ( I got the job). What does it matter if you look “ too keen”? ( what is too keen anyway?). It’s better than not looking interested at all. I would email or call if you haven’t heard by tomorrow and ask for feedback if unsuccessful. Good luck.

This happened to me.

Interview on Monday and told that they would let people know Tuesday afternoon about second interviews on the Friday.

Wednesday afternoon came round and I hadn't heard, so I sent a very friendly email thanking them for their time in interviewing me and asking if any decisions had been made about second interview.

I received a quick response saying that other candidates had 'more experience' or were a 'better fit' or something like that.

I think it's really rude. A quick thanks but no thanks email would have be fine, without having to chase them up.

If you can just let it go, then do, but otherwise email so that you can remove the 'maybe' doubts from your mind.

I've had the opposite experience. Not hearing for days, (even if told I'd hear by the end of the week) so assuming nothing was happening, then getting a second or third interview. It's often that they need a higher person to sit in on the later interviews and can't get space in their diary.

I emailed the hiring manager so hopefully they'll get back to me. I don't mind if I didn't get the job but I'd rather be told! Same way they'd rather be told if I couldn't turn up for the interview! It's common courtesy

Agree with you SassyS89 - that's a good analogy.

Hope that you get good news.

So I've heard back and I've got through to the second stage interview Grin fingers crossed I pass this one too!

That's great SassyS89!

Best of luck with the next one.

Good luck @SassyS89 I was coming to say I've chased, knew I hadn't got it but think it's so rude to not get back to someone when they've given up their time to attend an interview and I wanted them to squirm Grin glad your experience was different!
