Interview questions - training/outreach in charity sector

Got my first interview in years coming up. It’s to assist with running support groups, booking/setting up training (not doing the training itself), that sort of thing. Lots more online stuff now due to covid.

Obviously I’m writing down useful incidents from my employment history that would demonstrate skills etc.

Any ideas what sort of questions/scenarios might be likely please? 💐

Is it s competency based interview? If so I find using the STAR method to be great. Situation, task, action, results. That was you don't end up jumping all ove the place with your story telling.

Before- Organizational skills, so coordinating lots of things at once while fielding questions.

During- Will you be supporting during the training?!if so prepare examples for anticipating changing needs of the group/trainer/venue etc. Troubleshooting when things go badly.

After- follow up documents, collecting and responding to feedback, invitations to next event

For all your examples think of one time everything went to plan and another when it didn't and how you dealt with that.

Other relevant things might be gdpr, disability adjustments, software skills

Wow thank you that’s really helpful! I never would have thought to break it down like that.

I’m not sure about competency based - they just said it’s questions about relevant skills experience.

(I’m really not experienced with interviews!)

You can usually tell by the way they ask If you aren't sure you can ask during the interview. So if they say 'tell us about how you stay organized'. They probably want general things. But if it's 'tell us about giving great customer service' I would assume they want an example so my response would be something like 'serving my customer has been an important part of all my roles but I'd like to tell you about a time when I really had to step up.' Hopefully they will be really clear and say 'give us an example of when you x'

If in doubt, you can always just ask, did you want specific examples?

Try to spread your examples over different roles.

Also if there is one that really stumps you, don't be afraid to ask to come back to it. Your brain might just need some time. I've had candidates do this and they always come back with something far better that thoes who try to make something up on the spot. I have no issues moving on the the next question.

Good luck, let me know how it goes.
