Hello all, hope you are all okay? I would welcome some advice please with my employment.

I've been off of work for 8 weeks recovering from abdominal surgery and I'm due back this week. I can say I'm looking forward to it as whilst I've been off, my job description has changed? My official title is a Training Coordinator, some admin but mostly supporting the training department. However last month the trainer was asked to leave and another has taken his place.

My manager has emailed me to say she 'wants to develop my admin side and one of my new roles is to take minutes at meeting and reviews'. I'm really anxious about this as I'm Dyslexic (officially statement) this is widely know and I've tried to overcome the stigma by sharing my experiences. I feel that there is something bigger at stake as I wasn't given approval to do an in-house Apprenticship recently in Quality Improvement and project management, but informed I could do a business admin Apprenticship. Help please.Shock

Email back to keep this "in writing" (you need a written paper trail in case you need to prove what was said when, so any verbal conversations on the topic should be followed up with an email summarising what was said and ending with "please let me know if I have missed out anything substantive"

My suggestion would be "Thank you for letting me know that you are keen to develop my role. I am generally happy to learn and adapt and take on new responsibilities as you will know from my recent applications for in-house apprenticeships. My concern about the specific task of taking minutes of meetings is how to make reasonable adjustments for my dyslexia with regards to this task as I am not able to make notes at the speed necessary for minute-taking and the dyslexia is not something I can upskill my way out of, it is something I need to live with and adapt to. A possible adjustment might be that we make audio recordings of all meetings where I am to be the minute-taker so that I can use the recording to create a minutes document without the pressure of needing to take notes in real time. However this will make the task much more time-consuming than it might be for someone without dyslexia and will obviously therefore reduce the time I have available for other important tasks."
