Video interview with 'bot' questions anyone?

I've just received an email from a organisation that I applied for a job with, with a link to a 'video interview' which will be recorded and reviewed as the second stage of the interview process.

Is this a thing now? I've had a few interviews over Zoom including one where I had to send in a 10 minute video of me talking about what I could bring to the role, but this is new to me.

I've done these for a couple of roles now - got one, didn't get the other one. I find them so awkward and uncomfortable but think they're probably becoming more common.

I had this applying for a Civil service role. I found it awful as you get a very limited time to answer each question

Thanks for your replies.

I'm procrastinating doing it partly because nothing about the application process so far has made me think 'oooh, I'd really like to work here' but I think I should do it for the 'interview experience' as much as anything else.

I do wonder what the purpose of them is. Reviewing videos sent in is no quicker than actually holding online interviews surely? Maybe you don't have to gather a panel, people can watch them in their own time.

Can I just ask how you recorded your video for the interview you have done already? I have to do a similar thing for work and have no video editing skills at all!

I used the camera app in Word which has a video function.

I didn't edit, just prepared what I was going to say, rehearsed and did a final take.

Thank you :) good luck with your interview

I've decided that I really don't want this job, so didn't really care, but still found it excruciating.

I could have provided much better answers in writing, even writing under times conditions for two minutes with no editing or reviewing.

It did however make me think that I need to give myself plenty of time to prepare if this should be the format for a job that I want in the future.

Good luck with your applications too.
