Hello all, I am at my wit's end right now. I haven't had any luck at all with my job hunting. I thought I post this here after I have just done my marathon job applications today again.

I have these qualifications below;

BA International Relations 2:1 (2019)

Merit In Theory & Practice of Human Rights (2020)

BTEC Level 3 Business (Distinction Distinction Merit) 2007

I have worked as a Poll clerk during elections for my local electoral commission for the past 3 years.

I have volunteered for Hospice charity shop as a shop assistant for 2 years

I was a student representative in my first year at university.

founder & president of the current affairs club at the university.

I have had long gaps and breaks from studying and limited employment because it took me over a decade to recuperate from a life-changing accident and raising a young family.

I am very hard working, resilient, excellent logical, critical thinking, analytical skills. I can work independently or in a team.

Please if there is anyone here looking to employ someone for a role they think I would be able to fill with my qualifications above, please contact me. Help, please

So is the only actual experience you have in the shop?
What are you applying for?
Your qualifications aren’t very vocational and it sounds like you need some more solid experience. I appreciate why you don’t have that but most employers will want some relevant experience for the role unfortunately

myfuckingfreezer · 16/06/2021 22:01

What qualification is your merit in?

Where abouts are you based?

What kind of work are you interested in (don't just say any!)

shakeitoffshakeacocktail · 16/06/2021 22:08

What have you been applying for?

accentdusoleil · 16/06/2021 22:15

Your experience and qualifications are only really worth noting of relevant to the job you're applying for. So what is that ?

RickiTarr · 16/06/2021 22:16

DDM is her BTEC grade. That is how they are marked. It’s a good grade.
RickiTarr · 16/06/2021 22:21

I think you need an internship (or two) and a skills based - rather than chronological- CV @Somebodyimportant1 , after that you should be up and running. What sectors are you looking at? I’m not familiar with the Human Rights qualification but presumably that was intended to be vocational? I’m sure you know that’s quite niche, but, depending on location your CV could be tailored to work quite well in the charity sector, which is competitive but your grades are good and internships are a big thing in charities.

Gemma2019 · 16/06/2021 22:35

Maybe you could look into getting into the Civil Service Fast Stream? There are plenty of opportunities in the Civil Service where you could use your degree.

orangejuicer · 16/06/2021 22:37

Have you looked on indeed? It's very good for job searches.

Bodgers · 16/06/2021 22:41

It sounds like you’re interested in politics / social justice so this website may be helpful to you: www.w4mpjobs.org/SearchJobs.aspx?search=alljobs

CountingToThree · 16/06/2021 22:42

Whereabouts are you based/ looking for work?

Somebodyimportant1 · 17/06/2021 00:27

@myfuckingfreezer

I have a Merit in MA Theory and practice of Human Rights.

I have applied for roles without luck in all sectors, fast stream civil service, internships, banks, councils, admin office jobs on indeed and elsewhere, charity sectors, even teachers training to teach (I was surprised when I hadn't even completed my application I was sent am email that I do not have the relevant subjects to teach).

OP posts:
RickiTarr · 17/06/2021 00:42

Oh it’s an MA? Was it citizenship you wanted to teach?

Another option is to start professional qualifications by distance learning or evening class. CIM, ACCA or CIPD? Any of those appeal?

wheresmymojo · 17/06/2021 01:38

What geographical area are you looking for work in?

Somebodyimportant1 · 17/06/2021 06:11

@RickiTarr - I didn't pick a specific subject to teach. One fills in an application form & I guess that they then decide what areas or subject they want you to teach & provide training. Gradintelligence marched my qualifications with Teach First Recruitment (I don't want to teach because of all the horror stories I have heard. but I thought I give it a go since I couldn't find a job).

AbsolutelyPatsy · 17/06/2021 06:19

would you commute to London from Colchester?

MHIssues · 17/06/2021 06:21

Depending how desperate you are you could sign up with a temping agency for admin work. Will get some money coming in and get you work experience which currently you are lacking and could be off putting.

Ime temping can lead to permanent jobs and I’ve certainly temped for two weeks for a large company on reception and was then given a job as PA to one of the directors with quite a bit of project management stuff to do before.

Grad schemes for big national firms?

Morag72 · 17/06/2021 06:28

Do you have an up to date CV ? Are you using LinkedIn? I think you need to be a bit specific about the type of role you want & then post on LinkedIn that you really need help. I’ve seen lots of people in your situation do that and get help. It is a public forum - so you would obviously have to swallow some pride - but I honestly think it’s your best bet.

Somebodyimportant1 · 17/06/2021 06:31

@RickiTarr - thanks, I have once looked into CIPD and not the others because I am not good with numbers at all. Someone once mentioned the health and safety professional qualification (I can't remember what it is called now).

DinosaurDiana · 17/06/2021 06:31

Are you working now ?

Somebodyimportant1 · 17/06/2021 06:34

@Bodgers Thanks for the link

Somebodyimportant1 · 17/06/2021 08:35
