How to politely say something in an interview?

Dilemma!! Going for a job interview next week and don't know how to be polite about an issue in my current job.

When it comes to the question of - and why are you leaving your current employment? How do I say - because my current manager is a narcissist who micro manages me to within an inch of my life causing my current mental health problems.

Or do I just be polite and give the usual - I can't progress any further, new job is closer to home, I really want to go back to the role I worked in a few years ago etc?

Arrgghhhh!!!!

You don’t say that. Rightly or wrongly it will not give a good impression of you in the interview.
Just make up something bland and inoffensive or praise the company and say you want to work there. They want to see some enthusiasm for the role and not hear about a load of issues in your current job.

That's what I thought, I just needed someone to tell me so thank you!! It's been so long since I interviewed for anything I just wasn't sure lol

You focus on what to attracts you to the new job. Not the negatives about the old.

New job will offer you more opportunities to use your excellent initiative... opps to build on the really helpful management help that you’ve received in your current post, to develop your own problem solving skills eg eg eg...

Definitely talk about the positives of the new job rather than negatives of the old. Not that I don't believe you but if you give them a load of drama they'll at least consider the possibility that it's you who's the problem and you'll bring those issues with you

Agree with pp about focusing on the job on offer. Go with an "all pull, no push" attitude.
It's fine to say something like you feel you've learnt as much as you can in your current role and would like a new challenge.

This question I always see as a bit of the interview game.

Don't say your boss Is a narcissistic micromanage! Mine was too before I got made redundant so I sympathise!

I'd flatter them with all the good things about them/the role. Fine to say you are ready for a new challenge/taken current role as far as can etc.

Bluntness100 · 19/06/2021 18:58

Christ you can’t say that. Not unless you want to be guaranteed to not get the job! It would be seriously unprofessional to even hint at it

Say why you couldn’t just not apply for this fantastic role...

Always positives of the new.

Never negatives of the old.
