Has anyone ever stolen anything weird from their workplace when leaving??

@lynettscavo can't you just put 10 pence in the post tin or something?

That's what we all do when we need a large envelope or to post a letter

We get searched everytime we leave the store (retail, this is quite common) we have a spinner so we may get pockets bag, shoes, locker or any combination or even all four! And this is even when going for lunch or a ciggy, not just at home time. Literally every time we leave for anything.

A calculator from 13 years ago when I was a junior that I still use now. It's a cheap one and I've now worn off the keys I've used it so much Grin it wasn't intentionally stolen but I left in a hurry and found it a few weeks later in my work bag and felt after the pittance they paid me it wasn't worth the train fare to go back up there to return it.

Sellotape & dispenser, they refused to pay me 4 hours overtime.

An out of print Antonia Forest book from a school library, when on a PGCE placement.

I borrowed it quite legitimately, couldn't bear to return it, so went in & fake confessed to leaving it on a bus.

The librarian sighed & charged me a fiver.

It's worth about £90, & quite hard to come by online.

However, I re-read it regularly, have lent it out to fellow AF fans & it hadn't been borrowed by anyone before me for over 5 years, so I feel it's probably happier on my bookcase anyway.

Not stolen as such, but I did take a four hole punch from my last job, which was left behind by a head of department.
A few things 'accidentally' fell in the photocopier which I knew I'd find useful.
If I leave this job, I'll take all of the displays and lesson packs (I'm a teacher) that I have made up over the last several years as I know I've saved the department hundreds in copying costs - all of my students know they're only allowed to write on worksheets at Christmas! Grin

I steal the odd postage stamp but don't feel guilty about it as I put in a lot of unpaid overtime and often forget to claim expenses.

A calculator. This was prior to them being on phones and it was a really good one. I’ve still got it.

I did envelope stuffing as part of another role once and somehow managed to obtain boxes and boxes of envelopes!

Uniform and lanyards come to mind!

Was supposed to give them back when I left but it completely crossed my mind thanks to the pandemic, and no one asked me. Weird as my ex employer is quite anal and would take pleasure in making pay deductions so unsure why they didn’t.

Also once when I worked in retail, I tried a hat on and genuinely forgot to take it off as we were understaffed in a large London flagship store so was running around until I finished. I did give that back though, turned around as soon as I noticed!

Also I had someone steal from their work for me.

Went to an opticians and the guy clearly hated his job, he didn’t charge me for my eye test and gave me eye drops worth £12 for free lol

30degreesandmeltinghere · 09/06/2021 19:00

My friend didn't steal from the place she worked but instead glued all the place settings down in the restaurant..
Cleaner here so obviously would never steal.
Did once do well when a customers freezer broke and she told me to bin the lot. I asked if I could have it all instead...
She said yes. Ate like Kings for days!

Nope.

I'm a teacher so I steal things from my home to take to school.
