Boasting?

Hi all.

If your boss is off sick and you're unofficially covering their position, is it OK to boast about what a good job you're doing, especially if you're doing better than your boss 😬

That sounds really inappropriate.

And who’s to say if you’re doing a better job? Covering for a few weeks is completely different from doing a job long term.

I'm actually 'the boss' in this situation. Sales are higher than when I was working but that could just be a result of lockdown easing. I'm hearing from a staff member about how great everything is (they texted yesterday saying they'd made the highest so far) and they've posted on our work message board.

I'm actually very close to my team, we're all friends, and I felt comfortable enough to day I was a bit put out but was told they had worked their arses off so had every right to boast about it and did I want them to fail. I felt bad then.

You have clearly done a great job at recruiting and that is what is driving your company's success - you should be proud of what a great job you've done building such a successful team. You don't have to be the best at everything but you do need the best people working for you.

They shouldn't have taken individual credit for the team effort. If they are telling you the team did the best ever that is ok and should be celebrated.

You should have congratulated your team. You certaintly should not have told your team you were put out, it was very unprofessional and makes you sound defensive.
