Flexible work request

Hi
Just looking for some advice on how to word a flexible working request. I'm due to return from maternity leave in a few months and wish to return part time, main reason is that my dc has extra health care needs as they weren't well when born, and I have to return or I'd owe maternity money back.
I've looked at what you need to include in the letter and I've suggested job share but I'm stuck on how I would explain that would be beneficial for the company.
How have other people worded it when they've suggested job share. I don't really mind working on a different department as long as I can go back part time.

Thanks in advance

As I understand it, it's not necessarily about how your flexible working arrangement benefits the company...

But more, how it suits your new work/life balance.

I changed my FW pattern twice and I thought they were going to tell me to sod off the second time (to be honest). But my very frank LM told me that the company can't really refuse just because 'they don't want you to'.

They have to have a much better reason than that, so don't be fobbed off with a bullshit reason.

If I remember correctly, i had to complete a kind of schedule of how I could accommodate getting my work done within the new pattern.
Which was a load of old arse, really, cos it was just a token effort; which I didn't stick to and no one ever pressed me on it.

I know it's stressful, but fingers crossed that it is dealt with smoothly for you. 👍

Thank you for your advice :) One of the points of I'm considering putting in my request is that LO has a lot of medical appointments with his extra needs, and that these wouldn't affect my working hours if I was to return part time. My LO is my priority I'm just hoping work will approve me returning part time.

You're welcome. 👍

Your reasons are perfectly legitimate, in my opinion.
But I don't work in HR, though, I should say that!

Lots of luck. 🍀

You are entitled to ask for flexible working
Employers have to consider the request but can refuse it
Generally speaking they are not that interested in your work life balance, but more on how you changing your hours will affect the business
