Settlement - any tips for getting one?

Hi, and thanks for reading.

I'm in the unfortunate position of needing to leave work for health reasons - stress and anxiety. These issues were 100% caused by work, and I have a few historical issues stemming from the same source.

I'm talking to ACAS etc, but wanted to hear personal experiences.

Keeping things brief and non-outing:

  • I'm one of the senior team of three
  • One of the other senior members of the team is on the record in admitting that they encouraged an ex colleague to contact me when it was clear that this was borderline/actual harassment
  • Both other members of the SLT are on the record as having gone against board decisions that detrimentally affected me.
  • When I was off for acute stress, the remaining SLT fell out, and took actions that are catastrophically bad for the business. Heads will roll, etc.
  • The medical advice I've received is that it will be very difficult if not impossible for me to recover if I returned to work given the circumstances. I would be expected to pick up the mess they've made, which would take months, if not years.

As I'm on the SLT, I know they've given settlements before. Once to one of the SLT who was utterly useless to avoid them causing a stink when they were removed from their role. Once to an employee who we fired on legitimate grounds, but who we thought would take us to court, revealing some unsavoury things from the past (basically a horribly handled racism case that nobody then working for the company played any part in and were appalled to learn of). My leaving will also free up a significant amount of money, and I was going to ask for about 1/3 of that as a settlement. They need that money to help mop up their decision - there will no doubt be other redundancies as a result.

So, any tips?
