I work in the NHS and have an interview for an admin role also in the NHS. I have had some advice that making contact and asking to visit/ look round can give brownie points. Is this really a thing to do?

It’s absolutely a thing in the NHS, I’m a nurse and I’ve done it for every job I’ve gone for. It’s nice to meet the team, have a suss about of the place, get a few cheeky interview tips.

I guess the only thing to consider is if this is happening at the moment with Covid etc. I would imagine avoidable external contact wouldn't be encouraged at the moment, but maybe a phone call?

I always think its a good idea if it's welcomed. I have done this for a few internal roles (non NHS) and its either firmed up my decision to apply or I've had a couple go the other way and it's been a life saver as the departments overtly showed a pretty toxic environment so managed to swerve!

This is important to do with school roles too as they can be so different - important to get a feel for the place and of course pick up details you can use in supporting statement and interview if you decide to apply.

Yes absolutely in the NHS.
