What does this term mean on an offer letter? Is it the same as permanent?

I am afraid that the only person who can answer for certain is the person who made you the offer.

It might, it might not.

Give them a call tomorrow.

I can’t think of what else it could mean but permanent (in the employment context), but it is an unusual way of putting it. Very reasonable to ask them to clarify.

Does it mean you can never leave?! Shock

No “indefinite” means until further notice not forever, so in a sense like a permanent position when it comes to employment. But an odd term to use.

Indefinite may not necessarily mean Permanent. It could be a contract post without a fixed end date, but the person doesn't get to enjoy all the remunerative benefits of a permanently employed member of staff.

We could hazard a guess, but that's all it can ever be.

The only way to be sure is for the person issuing the contract documentation or wording of the post description to define what it means within their organisation.

Anything that ambiguous, I'd be suspicious of.
