How does annual leave work for you?

Hi everyone, just wondering really how annual leave works in your job? My dd works part time and has handed in an annual leave request for a weeks holiday. She handed it in 5 months in advance to ensure it would be approved which it was however she was told she’ll need to find her own cover. She has been told to find someone to step in for her before but this was only at short notice so would’ve thought with so much notice they would have arranged the cover. I may be completely wrong and it may be the way most businesses work now but was just curious as it’s never happened in any of my workplaces. It’s difficult for her to find cover as a lot of people say no which is understandable, most don’t want to work on their day off, although she very rarely says no to others. The contact doesn’t mention arranging cover so just wondering how everyone else’s workplace works as it just seems strange to me Smile

Sounds very strange
What sort of job is it?

@dementedpixie I thought that, she’s a children’s gymnastics coach

My friends DD's coach gymnastics & they often have to arrange cover for their holidays/exam study/school trips etc & it's very much treated like volunteering even though they get paid.

Annual leave is awful at our work. Every caseload has to be covered by at least one person (occasional days without cover are manageable in some caseloads but not others). We're supposed to discuss at team meetings, get our cover agreed between us, agree it, formally request it, inform our boss we've requested it, and then it's approved and can go in The Diary. No less than 2 weeks and no more than 6 months ahead. Never more than 2 weeks unless getting married or going to Australia. I'm in 2 separate teams each week so multiply that by 2 for me.

Tbh it sounds normal. Sorry.

@PermanentTemporary gosh that sounds like a pain! It’s not great as even after leave gets approved there’s still the worry about not being able to arrange the cover.
