Offered a job but still not received this in writing :(

Hi all

I was recently successful at an interview but a week later and I still haven’t received an offer in writing. Obviously I haven’t handed in my notice but I’m dying to leave.

I should point out that I made a point regarding my salary as it had increased since doing my initial application. They said that the salary starts at the bottom of the scale despite being lower than my current salary which wasn’t stated in any of the job information. I’m wondering if this is the cause for the delay!
I chased this up yesterday morning by sending an email to the recruiting manager but I’d really like to get a response before the weekend!

Not really sure what more I can do, anyone else been in the same situation or can offer advice please?

Thanks!

Personally I wouldn't risk handing in your notice until you have something in writing. Better safe than sorry.

@Rosmac oh I definitely agree and won’t until I have it in writing. They got back to me eventually and said HR will be sending me written confirmation early next week, fingers crossed!

What type of organisation is it? It's taken 2.5 weeks for me to get the formal notification for a civil service offer, some places are just frustratingly slow!

@changeruset2748 it’s in higher education. I’ve not had to wait this long for confirmation before, I just want to resign as there’s the whole thing with wanting to have a start date ASAP so I don’t miss the payroll cutoff date, otherwise I have to wait 6 weeks to be paid! 😩

2.5 weeks is a long time to wait, is that normal for civil service then?
