Can you employer give you a reference for renting?

I know there is a difference between a guarantor and some one providing you with a reference when you are looking to rent a property to live in. Can your employer act as your referee or witness when you sign the tenancy document and can they do it if they’ve only known you for let’s say a month?

Will you always need a reference for renting?

There’s some stuff on this website about how probation periods usually work & your rights. www.jobsite.co.uk/advice/what-is-a-probation-period[/quote]
Thank you. I will take a look when I can.

@Onesnowynight

I’ve just completed my probation and that was 6 months.
Did you have any issues renting sooner than 6 months?

Probation period- as long as your doing your job and 'behaving' achieving what you need to be do not see it as scary see it as a challenge.
I was given a great reference by my work unexpectedly when asked about my permanent position at work for the fact I had talked about the negative details of the house I was in.
My unexpected reference said I was reliable honest and a good person- responsible etc. (pay rent look after the place etc)
I think you need to relax if it is meant to be it will be.
Here in my country a house application is just as competitive as a job nowadays.
We all have to start somewhere
