A few months ago I was offered a new job (managerial position) but when I handed in my notice my boss said she would match the salary offered by the new company if I would stay but was not able to offer me any mangement responsibilities. I decided to stay where I am and reject the new offer as my company has very good policies to balance family life and the new role would have been more stressful and more hours.
I am now in a position where I am being paid a manager's salary but have none of the responsibilites to go with it. Thinking ahead I will probably want to change jobs within the next 5 years and I am now worried that the mismatch between salary and experience are going to cause me issues.
Its very unlikely that I will be able to gain management experience where I am so I am thinking about other things that I can do to gain more experience and develop more skills so that I can justify the salary I am asking for when changing jobs.
Has anyone been in this position before and can offer any kind of advice as to what kinds of things will look good to potential new employers?
