Work colleague fabricating lies

I have a work colleague who has lied about a particularly serious incident that recently occurred, which I oversaw, falsely reporting to a line manager that I had not followed correct procedure. I know this because an email was sent to all relevant recipients by the line manager, with the incident mentioned amongst other things.

This colleague has also in the past inferred that as soon as senior management take a disliking to certain workers, they find a way to successfully push them out. Coincidentally, there were several resignations just prior to the pandemic.

Another co - worker, who left a couple of years back now, once told me that this colleague brown noses and fabricates lies to make themselves look good. Despite not following protocol themselves and compulsively lying, they continue to steamroll others.

I'm extremely worried this may affect the long term prospects of my job. My options are really limited in terms of location and suitable hours if I were to resign. Losing my job would also make me homeless and I would have nowhere to turn to. I can only think this colleague gets some kind of perverse satisfaction out of this.

I think you should let the internal processes run through.

Somebody has reported that they think an incorrect procedure has been followed, I think employees should be able to do that. It is now up to management to investigate that claim. If it is found to be incorrect then that will be the end of the matter.
