Do I accept a new job offer?

Hey everyone,

So I really need some help!

I currently work for a travel company and have been there just over 2 years. I love my job but the management is making me want to leave.

I am currently working from home due to the pandemic and I love it and have adapted really well, however, over the past few months I am really starting to hate where I work.

My job is dealing with complaints and as you can imagine during these uncertain times the complaints are coming in thick and fast and I just get screamed at daily ... this is what I signed up for so it comes with the job I suppose.

Recently management have been extremely poor! Not much support, if you call them for advise on a issue with a customer they answer the phone with 'what' instead of ' hi how can I help'. Also they just constantly remind us all of how bad we are all working (there are 60 of us in our team) and even though we are working as hard as we possibly can, they still persist in bringing us down.

So cut a long story short, I have been looking at other jobs and I had an interview last week for a job which sounds fantastic! They have now offered me the job.

I am really struggling deciding what to do, do I stay where I am or do I accept the job offer and start a new career?

Whenever I think about accepting I some how talk myself out of it, it is coming to the point where I need to make a decision but I really don't want to regret turning it down or regret taking it.

Can I please have some advice?

Do a pro's and con's list for both roles.

They do say people don't leave bad jobs, they leave bad managers!

This obviously doesn't apply all the time but if the way you are being treated by management has made you look elsewhere, it means that long term, it will probably continue to bring you down.

Well Done for getting the interview and the job,you have obviously shown loads of potential in the new role and good luck in whatever you choose to do :-D

I don't understand the dilemma - your current job and you management sound awful - why would you stay?

TLKlover · 19/04/2021 21:09

Is it not better the devil you know? @Harrythewho

I would be veering towards new role in my personal opinion but you make the ultimate decision @SarahElizabeth11

Why did you apply for new job if not interested in taking it? Is it less money? You have to travel more? Less pension contributions? I honestly can't see what is holding you back.

Take the new job, trust me you will kick yourself later.

I am in 2 minds of whether to leave as I feel I am very good at my job. I have been there for over 2 years and progressed also have always wanted to work in the travel industry so it's a foot in the door.

I applied for the other job because I have just had enough, but now I have the job offer the thought of something new and 2 years worth of progression down the drain scares me.

The new job is a lot closer to where I live and it is at management position so it sounds perfect.

I understand that there doesn't seem to be a dilemma but when you are used to something and comfortable sometimes it's harder to leave x

And it is that feeling that allows shitty managers to keep behaving the way they do! I have worked with people who are really quite miserable about the way they are treated for decades, waiting for it to change / be the person who makes the change - stop being the victim.

If it were me, I’d just jump at it. If you decide to stay at your current job and it starts off again, you’ll be wishing you left. Being too comfortable in a job has its fair share of problems too.

Go for it.I turned down a job in lockdown now I'm dreading going back to my old one.
I may have yrs behind me but something doesn't feel right.

ThatOtherPoster · 23/04/2021 07:35

Congratulations on getting the new job!

Which industry is it in? Is the money better?

lesbonastraves · 16/05/2021 22:34

Why did you go to the interview? Why did you look at the first place if you are not sure that you want to leave? Sorry, I don't understand.. are you just scared of a change? Because it's pretty obvious you are not having a nice time at your current job?? Confused.
