Maternity rights. Not being furloughed at 28 weeks

footprintsintheslow · 10/04/2021 13:14

My friend works as a carer and has been told they are no longer furloughing people at 28 weeks. They were sketchy on details and her rights and I thought if anyone can advise then Mumsnet can.

She hasn't had the vaccine and is in a very hands on role so can't work from home.

Can anyone help?

Is she CEV? If not, I think the guidance advising pregnant people to be furloughed at 28 weeks was removed last month and is no longer in force.

Why hasn't she had her vaccine?
The furlough arrangements regards pregnancy has ended

You can’t be vaccinated if pregnant, or at least it is cautioned against.

OP, I’ve just checked the gov guidance and it says they should be suspended on full pay if they can’t work from home.

I’m not sure it was part of the furlough scheme, it is up to the company to find you alternative work or suspend on full pay looking at this.

The guidance around pregnancy hasn't changed - common misconception confusing it with shielding.

Pregnant then Screwed have a lot of useful information.

Agree with CaramelWafer above, pregnancy guidance is different to shielding/CEV as those people should have been vaccinated by now whereas pregnant women are not recommended to be unless their risk from COVID outweighs any potential risk from the jab.

Look at the maternity action website, they have good advice. I’m also in a caring role and have been taken out of a patient facing role and will be be working in admin which I think is what most people have done. If admin work/non patient facing isn’t available, there’s work from home and then furlough (I think most places want to avoid this). Any changes to job role and hours etc should still result in receiving the same pay

This. I'm 28 weeks and my role has changed so I can work from home full time. She should receive full pay. Furlough is a different and unrelated scheme.

I don't think pregnant women can have the vaccine.

Not sure what CEV is?

I'm frontline NHS and 38 weeks pregnant. I still had to work until I started my maternity leave ( until 36 weeks). I'm not clinically vulnerable so had no reason not to go into work. After a long discussion with my boss about the government advice my role was changed slightly so I visited covid wards less and focused on a staff teaching project rather than face to face patient contact. My job could not be done from home.

Ginfilledcats · 10/04/2021 14:37

As the medic pp said previously no nurses carers or doctors who were pregnant were furloughed, your employer should do. Rusk assessment and find the safest way for you to continue to work, that could be doing a different caring role or admin potentially from home!

This is good news for hcw
