Hello,
I would like to become a childrens nurse and am starting a pre access course (level 2) that leads on to the access to health professions course in september.
I am obviously a bit nervous but want to give it my best shot as its something I've wanted to do for a long time.
Anyway, one thing I feel may hold me back when applying to uni is that I only have 1 years support worker experience in a special needs school. This entailed personal care as well as helping to eat etc but it was obv a school, not a hospital or care home.
I would love to gain some hospital experience in the next year in readiness for applying to university.
My question is (finally getting there!), do universities look favourably on people who do voluntary work in hospitals? I'm thinking of applying to the childrens ward to see if they have volunteer space. My other option is to do bank work for a local childrens respite care home if I could possibly get a position. However I would rather go down the volunteer position if at all possible.
If anyone has any experience or insight, I would very much appreciate it. Xx
