It's for a part time job as a gp's receptionist, training given (for a change).

Anyway, have to send cv (which i already have) with a covering letter, but I have no idea what to put in the letter or how it should be worded.

I know the name of the person I am writing to so how should the letter start ?

Remember that it is your sales pitch, so include something that makes them think you know what the job entails, why you think you are a good fit and most importantly that you want it. I am amazed at how many applicants give no indication that they are actually keen for you to employ them. But no more than one side of A4. So something like "I am interested in this role because blah blah blah. As you can see from my attached CV, I would be a good fit for your practice because blah blah blah." If they have said what sort of person they are looking for don't forget to reassure them that you are that person (or near enough!)

It's also worth restating phrases from the ad. So if it says:

Good people skills - say that you have them and give an exmaple

Dear XXXX

The advertisement for the role of xxx is of great interest to me and i would like to be considered for the position.

I have xxx years of experience in xxx ..... (one or two lines summary).

I am confident that my skills and experience will match your criteria and I therefore enclose my CV for your perusal.

I would welcome the opportunity to discuss this further with you and I look forward to hearing from you
