Hi

I am expecting a baby and due on 4th June.

My husband has just accepted a new job which will start on 19th April. Does anyone know what are his rights to paternity leave?

He won't have a right to paternity leave

If you’re pregnant when he starts no chance, can’t remember how many weeks tour aren’t covered. Happened to me and I used a few days of A/L

I had the same with my first child and my husband wasn't entitled to paternity leave. He took two weeks I paid and then then two weeks annual leave. It's shit but there you go.

*unpaid

That’s the basic rule for maternity and paternity. If you are already pregnant when the new job starts, not eligible.

He won't be eligible for paternity, any time off he wants will either have to be taken out of his annual leave or as unpaid.

PPs are correct on the law, but some companies will give paternity leave and pay regardless of when he starts. Mine does. He should check.

He can request unpaid leave at the employer's discretion even though he's not entitled to the paid weeks. Most non arsehole companies will say yes
