Applying for a new job

A role has come up at a competing company. Exactly the same job as I do now but for a different firm. Both firms are in a small town of around 8000 people. Sadly, a place where gossip and chit chat is rife so I need to be careful about applying.

The firm I work for now and this competing firm employ a total of around 12 people across both firms so I have some concerns about applying because the email address to apply to is workforus@firmname and I have no idea who is receiving the emails at their end.

I cannot afford for it to be known that I have applied.

My concern is that they’ve asked for someone full time. I currently work 4 days and can’t increase that.

I do know the director of the other company professionally. Would it be wrong of me to contact him directly by email say I am thinking about applying but I see he has asked for someone full time. If he says we need full time then I know that would rule me out automatically. Also, they may be looking for someone not local rather than from the competing company and this may give him the chance to say.

What’s your thoughts?

Why do you want to move to the same job in another company?

purplelampshade · 20/03/2021 16:02

I don’t want to out myself but been with current place a long time (14 years). Have been through 2 mergers, redundancies and some shit management.

I just feel I need a fresh scene.

If that is your reason and its not for more money, better work life balance etc.... I would be very careful as with the current state of the job market and the pandemic you will have no real employment rights (other than for protected characteristics) for 2 years. You would be entitled to no redundancy pay for 2 years either. Tread carefully.

Are you in the vet profession?

Is that what you are going to tell them when they ask you why you are changing jobs?

I’ve not thought that far ahead. I’ve not applied, let alone been invited for an interview.

I'm thinking the director is going to ask you why you want to make the move and I'd have that story sorted out before you make the call or he will say he wants someone not local from the competing company.

Hi, I am a qualified nurse in an acute area at present as a band 6, I have for a while now been thinking a lot about a change to becoming a school nurse and now think the time is is right. I have seen a post advertised for a band 6 specialist school nurse that offers a preceptorship,
So as with new posts you normally go in as a band 5 but is this not the case with school nursing? I am more than happy to start at band 5 level I just wondered why they advertise the post as band 6 preceptorship.
