Issues now I’m leaving

I’ve given my NHS notice in and leave in a couple of weeks.

I work in an area that does shifts, and have accrued annual leave that I have requested for my last week.

It looks like my request will be refused and I will have to work my last shifts at the very end of the week to then drive for 9 hours to my new town, to work the next day.

I’m being ignored by my manager.

It’s really making me dread my last few weeks and feel so so stressed over it

Can anyone advise me on how to proceed / if I have any employment rights relating to this

What does it say in your contract about taking leave/being paid for it when you leave employment?

Tagagzjskva · 18/03/2021 21:30

It says it may be taken at the end of the employment period at the manager’s discretion

Or added on to final pay check

Well you need to talk to your line manager and ask to take your last day as leave or perhaps speak to your new employer and delay your start date by a few days??

GreenClock · 18/03/2021 21:51

Is there a compromise to be had? Maybe the last two days rather than the last week?

Driving for 9 hours after a shift is really not doable. You won’t be safe. Make this really clear.

Tagagzjskva · 18/03/2021 21:56

My line manager is unresponsive to email and text and I haven’t been on a shift the same day as them in weeks, but I will try

What would happen if you were ill on your last day?

RandomMess · 18/03/2021 22:05

Go to their manager?

DingBat101 · 18/03/2021 22:06

Sick?

GreenClock · 18/03/2021 22:06

Yes, go to their manager.

CrotchetyQuaver · 18/03/2021 22:21

How long till you finish?

I'd be tempted to send a further email requesting that they please respond in the next 48 hours, then if they don't escalate this matter by going to their manager. If they roster you to work the final day(s) I would email them to advise that due to resigning and taking X days paid leave, you won't be able to cover those shifts.

What a twatty thing for your manager to do.

Tagagzjskva · 18/03/2021 22:21

@Mooselaurels nothing it would be my only sickness absence since starting and less than 7 days so self certifying

My manager isn’t off sick, in case that’s what people are asking

I will have to figure out who my managers manager is. However due to the culture at this workplace that would be viewed very poorly.

Thanks everyone

Didn’t see your message til now, thanks.

I agree. It’s pissed me off. I may well do that. It’s at least confirmed to me I’m doing the right thing. Getting the hell out
