Submitted cv - got asked to 90 minute interview ??????

Blokey type here. IT professional with Developer, Developer Manager, and Strategy Consultant on cv until redundancy in 2017.

54 years old. Didn't get back to work immediate as DW had a life changing operation, and DM developed dementia before passing away.

Now ready to re enter the fray and have been honing and brushing my cv, looking for similar IT management or consultant roles.

Out of the blue, just now, had a call from a company that I sent my cv to. They want me in for a 90 minute interview of which 40 minutes is a presentation.

No preliminary chats. No remote calls. A real life rock-up-and-see-us interview. With a panel of 3 (from the iCal Smile).

Why am I flabberghasted ? Is this imposter syndrome gone wild, or is my assertion to DW that firms don't just go from "here's a pile of cvs" to "lets have that one in for 90 minutes " in 2021 ??????

Having recruited myself, I know I would at least want a brief telephone chat before pulling a candidate in.

Or have they just realised how fucking amazing and skilled I am. I mean I am, but it usually takes a while for people to realise. Sometimes they might never realise Grin

I've got a week to prepare, but confidence is shot.

Would be grateful to hear if anyone else thinks this is odd - or normal. And if I can glean anything from the circumstances. Many thanks in advance.

On the basis I've been applying since last July, and the money is close to running out, I am also well aware that I'm in danger of developing magical thinking. And that won't do.

Congratulations.

I came to this thread late but I did wonder whether your amazement at the in person interview was because you have been at home so long. Life in many businesses is indeed happening "in person". Enjoy being back at work,

Congratulations! (And hoping it's not an April Fool Grin)

Oh wow what lovely news!! Congratulations!

dramaqueen · 01/04/2021 10:50

Absolutely brilliant, well done! How lovely to be going into a long weekend with such news. Chuffed for you.

Well all documents have come through now.

I'm a tad concerned with references. My last employer is massive enough to still be around, but managed to get rid of everyone that managed me directly. And that was 4 years ago. I guess they can provide a generic reference for that.

Then before that its 11 years. Luckily my old boss was an ex-copper so that looks good on paper.

Now I can tell Facebook and LinkedIn, I guess.

Once again thanks to all - I'll miss MN, but a solid 9-5 isn't going to allow for too much posting.

What fantastic news. Good luck for Tuesday.

All forms completed and saved to USB stick ... new trousers (2" bigger waist. Not happy about that ....) everything all ready for tomorrow.

Made connection with the MD on LinkedIn, saying thanks for the role (the offer was signed by them) and they accepted and said welcome to the team. Which set my imposter syndrome jangling (again).

No sign of my last P45 from 2017. It's going to be one of those "so safe, we'd never find it). Annoyingly I don't seem to have a scan either. Which is odd, but not much can be done.

Because I was last in work in 2017, and because my last employer rather disappeared the entire department I was in from director down, I don't have any direct references. However a former executive director has said I can use them - and they covered my time with them. And before that the MD of the company (going back to 2008) I was with has also agreed.

For me, the last action to convince myself will be tomorrow after work when I update my LinkedIn with this role. With the added satisfaction of knowing quite a few contacts won't understand how I bagged a role this senior.

Going to sign off now - but really want to wish all here the very best, and hope that if nothing else this thread helps someone behind me.

It's been inspiring @IChangedMyNameForThisQ.

lljkk · 05/04/2021 18:14

My only worry would not be imposter syndrome but more like .. have you missed something key, a work condition that nobody sane wants. Like, maybe you have to move to Beirut, get paid in Bitcoins, or the line manager is a notorious arsehole. Those are the details I'd be looking for.

IChangedMyNameForThisQ · 05/04/2021 18:55

I'm old and ugly enough to have known a few cowboy types in my time. The nadir being working for a company in a CVA and having a "Will I be paid" bet every month. Until I got them out of their CVA.

This is a pukka outfit - no fly by night types. (Google streetview has their offices going back to 2005 ....)

I did mention bitcoin in my presentation Smile

I wasn't planning on posting anymore, but just wanted to say I've done my due diligence.

Best part of the past 5 days has been able to tell my DW how much she means ... in the past 4 years, she's put up with a hair shirt life without a single complaint. So she's due a lot of treats. And with convenient, if not spooky, timing, hairdressers are starting to work again ....
