Some years ago now as a student nurse I was told by my senior tutor (a man) that I was a disgrace for getting pregnant and should leave and become a housewife and look after my baby. He said he expected my notice within the next week.
I couldn't afford to give up my career as I'd be a single mother on benefits so I had no choice but go to court to fight for my right to stay. The same senior tutor had said the same in front of witnesses so I had back up.
Result was he was sacked, he was greatly respected in the field and I felt bad about it but I needed my job and I didn't see why I should be sacked for being pregnant. I was the first student nurse in that hospital ever to be allowed to stay after a pregnancy. This was early 80's.
However after that I was shunned and was the only student not to be given a job with that hospital after qualifying. They made my life pretty miserable.
The court case was pretty much carried around with me for the rest of my nursing career and put an end to it, it's a fairly small world, so I worked agency for years, better money anyway.
Eventually I retrained as an allied professional and finally got rid of the stigma and had a good career.
I don't think I should have been stigmatised for this - has anyone else been to court or a tribunal for work related, bullying, sexism, rascism and suffered fallout for it for the rest of their career?
I have heard that this often happens.

Someone at work was being bullied by management. She had meetings with senior management nothing got done. Managers girlfriend was in the same position as said person being bullied. There was a lot of obvious favourtism if the girlfriend didn't like someone she made it known via her boyfriend.
In the end the bullied victim put a formal grievance in and it's gone to HR. Everyone in the department backed the grievance with evidence as there was a lot if issues with the wild management style. I don't know how things have gone as I left pretty swiftly as the atmosphere was toxic. This was 5years ago and it was the public sector.
