NHS pre-interview visit - anyone done one??

I have been shortlisted for an entry level position in the nhs. I have arranged a pre-interview visit to take place Weds this week as google told me this was a must! I'm guessing I'll get a short tour of the department, meet the lady who will be interviewing me and say hello to a couple of others. Not sure what else to expect? Anyone else done one of these? What was the conversation like?

I'm concerned I'm not going to be prepared for anything they might ask me there and then on the spot! Are there questions I should definitely ask? I'm interested to go and it'll definitely be beneficial to see the department I might be working in. But I need to make a good impression and am worried I won't!!

Hope somebody can help!

Yes.
100% this is very good idea and will set you ahead of your competitors.
Think of intelligent questions to ask and be sure to refer to these questions and answers with add on questions at your interview when they ask you if you have any questions.
Just make sure that they know that you bothered to make the appointment and show a keen interest during interview.

The amount of applicants I have interviewed who have the opportunity to visit and look around but don’t or who know absolutely zero about the dept or job is staggering.

Thank you for the reply! The lady did bite my hand off when I emailed in to arrange the visit so I figured I'd done the right thing.

I think I have a good understanding of the job but perhaps that's why I'm struggling to think of questions to ask!

How long does a visit usually take? Is it quite quick? Would much discussion take place or is most saved for interview?

Ask about specifics to the job in that location. Dress code, holiday request procedure, when do shifts schedules come out etc.

Are there facilities for the staff to have a locker, a staffroom with a microwave, fridge etc.

Ask what their best piece of advice would be for a new starter, what their key targets are and their KPIs (key performance indicators).

Be interested, lively and engaging and make sure you actively listen to the info they give you. Good luck!

I saw this yesterday and thought it was quite useful. Best of luck.

Usually quite a quick show around if it’s a very busy dept, questions will come to you, things like induction period, training opportunities, likelihood of release to attend training... then save up questions about this for interview, but throw in...”when I came to look round, you mentioned training opportunities...I’ve been looking up xxx(course pertinent to the job) would you support me if I chose to begin this course to enhance my understanding and performance in the role”
That’s a bloody blinder of a question to chuck in !!

That's really helpful, thank you!
