Performance Improvement Plan

Hi,
I posted the other day with regards to difficulties with my boss, after speaking to HR and my manager’s line manager it was recommended that I speak to him directly and try and resolve the issues..it was also mentioned that they see the same behaviours that I’m mentioning.
I spoke to my boss on Monday and had a open and honest conversation..and agreed how we work moving forward.
I had my end of year review later this week where I had met all the metrics/behaviours ..but was given a poor rating.
3 main reasons were given for this...2 of them I dispute and 1 is correct.
I have now been put on a PIP. I have to admit I was quite surprised. I’m not sure whether this PIP was based on my performance in December or this year? Or what are going to be my development areas.
There was a lot of grey areas in my EOY where he was unable to give examples etc.
I’ve also not had any coaching nor been warned about going on a PIP.
I’m massively disappointed as been with company for a long time. Now this line manager has been here for a short space of time and I’m on a PIP.
I’m really worried about where this is going...he knows I’ve complained about him several times and it worries me sick that he will be managing my performance for the duration of the PIP. I also feel that there is absolutely no trust between us.
I’m disappointed as I’ve highlighted my issues with regards to him several times, and apparently the company see it to, but now it feels he is a position to really destroy my career.
I think it may be time to look for another job...

Now this line manager has been here for a short space of time and I’m on a PIP.

I guarantee the new manager has a broom in his hand for a clean sweep, and he's trying to manage you out. Seen it so many times.

My approach is to do everything by the book, treat the PIP as a challenge, make copious notes on a daily basis of everything you're doing specific to what the PIP improvements are, email them to him at the end of each week. If the PIP is for 8 weeks, 8 separate emails to show the progress you've made.

That's all you can do. Then it will be down to him to decide if, despite the evidence you've provided, whether you've passed or failed. If he wants you gone, he will ignore everything you've done and will bring in new perceived failings to shift the goal posts.

Not trying to be negative, but this is the possible reality.

It doesn't sound like he wants you to succeed, but you may be pleasantly surprised. All you can do is play the game to win the game.

I have been through this, I was advised to do EVERYTHING on it - which I did to the letter, passed it and am now being managed by someone else as I fought and fought to be moved from previous manager.

I also used to job search every evening and it was incredibly stressful but I had lots of supportive friends at work, I'd been there a long time and the manager was new, and my union said I could talk about being put on a plan so I did. With everyone. And they all knew what my work was like, so it said more about my old manager than it did about me.

We're both still there, I will not answer an single email sent by them without copying in at least one other person to cover myself just in case that shit starts up again...

Good luck whatever you decide 💪

You need to protect yourself OP. Yes document everything and engage fully with the PIP, but also plan for the worst outcome that you are deemed to have failed and might be dismissed. Not saying this will happen but you need to plan for it, particularly as your company has offered you no support in dealing with these longstanding issues.
You must also start looking for other jobs ASAP.
