Please help me....

I feel generally I do well with interviews I have got every job I have interviewed for but I am returning to work after just over a year off after having my baby and I have had a few in the last 2 weeks but there's one question which is usually the first one employers ask

"So why do you think you will be good for this role?"

It throws me each time because I just don't know what to say?

How do you answer that?

I applied for said jobs because it fits my qualifications and I have 15 years experience?

What do employers want to hear?

I have an interview tomorrow and I really need and want the job.

Please help

I'd summarise the experience/skills/knowledge you have that fits with the job advert, and what additional skills you have that would be an extra benefit to them.

Thankyou for replying @jldy2020 I don't know how to summarise it. I find myself saying "well because of the experience I have had over the years in different settings and my qualifications" it just sounds so bland. I don't have any skills? The other questions they ask the answers just roll off my tongue but it's that first one.

As well as showing you have the skills and experience , Think about your strengths (team work, attention to detail, leading, enthusiasm, resilience... etc what ever yours are) , and how you could use these to do the job. Also think about how you could fit into the culture of the organization.

I agree, it's picking out their key requirements and then illustrating that you have them. When they say 'good organisational skills', you say 'I understand you need good organisational skills, well in my last role, I had a team of 15 of varying levels and I had to manage their objectives, make sure they were improving and adding value to the team, which had to add £x of sales per quarter' etc etc

Or 'I had to manage the diaries of three board members, over the last five years, making sure they were aware of all appointments and projects for the week or month ahead'

That sort of thing

@crazybutkind how did the interview go?

crazybutkind · 26/02/2021 06:09

Ok I think. The interviewer said it was "a lovely interview, well done" so I should find out today or Monday. I hope it's today so I can relax either way. Thankyou for your message I will update you when I know xx
