Returning to work after 7 years

Looking to return to work in the coming year after a long period being a SAHM! I have three children, under 7 (two of which will be at school as of august).

Whilst I'm obviously finding the job hunt aspect ok (despite the limited number of positions available) I'm a bit anxious about all the practical aspects of returning to work with a young family. Can someone help guide me in the process - should I make applications and go for interviews first, then wait for a job offer before looking at childcare providers. Or would employers expect me to have all that sorted before applying for jobs? Can nurseries give an indicative answer on a place if you don't know when you'll need it? Or is that a waste of their time? It could be that I find a suitable job quickly, but just as likely it takes many months.

Bumping for you but you might get replies if you move this to the Chat board.

I’m in the same position and just starting to casually job hunt after 6 years as a SAHM. DC would need after school care (and possibly before school depending on a job’s start time) but the club that operates out of his school is often full with few vacancies and waiting lists. Yet, I’m not keen on a childminder either and they are in very short supply around where we live anyway.

I could get a job straight away or it could take 6 months so there’s no point paying nearly £500 per month for childcare when getting a job could be months away. We have decided to go with taking a chance and only looking for childcare once I have a solid job offer.
