Job advertised for a short length of time

I've seen a job I like the look of but it is only open to applications for one week. Does this probably mean they already have an applicant in mind so are just going through the motions with advertising etc.. It's a NHS role and they are usually open for a couple of weeks at least. Thinking I might be wasting my time with the application.

Not necessarily. It may be that they appointed someone to the role and they have turned it down or proved to be unsuitable - DBS check or references not appropriate. If it's a job you want, apply for it. The interview will be on points (google will give you examples of interview questions) so even if they have already earmarked someone for the job, if they fail the interview, they won't get it. Good luck!!

Quite often there's an internal candidate that's been doing the job but they are required to open for others. You could still beat the applicant if you scored better than them

In the case at my work it’s because of the large volume of people they expect to apply.

I agree .

As the internal candidate its never worked in my favour either

my experience of NHS is they advertise internally first; if they get internal candidate, they never advertise externally. Point being, if it's advertised externally they cannot have an internal candidate who previously expressed interest.

Different in other sectors, I think, where external adverts are mandatory no matter who applies internally.

Thanks Soo and everyone. After reading your comments I guess it might be worth a shot.
