I'm not starting on my official start date?

I received my unconditional offer of employment along with an official start date (next Monday) which I accepted. However, today I have been sent a group email which says not to go in until I have been told to and after doing remote training/inductions which is next Thursday and then after that I will then be given a start date? However I have already been giving a start date.

I'm a little confused and don't want to just not turn up on Monday. I've had emails sent from lots of different email addresses and different departments and so I'm not really sure who to contact.

I'm thinking of replying to the member of HR who sent my offer letter and asking for clarification but I don't want to sound stupid and like I can't follow simple instructions...

Does anyone have any advice on how to word the email to HR in a way that doesn't make me sound inept Blush?

Thank you

Don't worry, it's not you that's inept, it's clearly them for not being able to give you a simple instruction with contradicting themselves Smile

I think email HR, yes, but also copy in your line manager if you know who that is, or otherwise the person that sent the group email, because HR usually just go off what management tell them and it's possible you may just get a generic reply from HR saying your start date is Monday but with no further clarification on where to go/whether to come in.

I'd just word it very simply and politely, something like 'Good morning, Please could I request clarification on my start date, my contract and offer letter state my start date as Monday 15th Feb however yesterday's email from X refers to a start date of Thursday. Should I report to the office on Monday or will I be expected to work from home until then?" or similar.

It may be that they want you to do online mandatory training from home or similar until your 'official' start on site (if it's an on site job) on Thursday? Or possibly if it's the kind of job with rotas/rosters, your employment start date could be Monday but not rostered on until Thursday, although if it's a full time job you'd hope that will still mean you are paid in full for the week?
