Any NHS staff managers around?

Re: a pay query- I worked at band 6 level for 8 months before getting a promotion to band 7. I have now changed jobs again (8months later), and am going back down to a band 6 post.

All in the same field.

Should I be going back down to the bottom of b6? Or can I negotiate to start this new post at a higher increment in view of working at b7 for 8 months?

Thank you 😊

I’m not a manager, but I’ve had colleagues who have done this and they have gone down to the second point on band 6 (based on your time line). Starting higher up the band than this would depend on things like whether this was a secondment post or reasons for switching jobs. I’d be very surprised if they put you right back at the bottom of band 6.

Have you taken a new contract, you should try to negotiate it before accepting.
A colleague of mine was band 7 for many years, changed role to a band 6 deputy manager and was put at the bottom of band 6. Her new manager is trying to negotiate with HR putting her up to top of band 6, but struggling. She was under impression she would be top of band 6 as been band 7 for years, so was taking a big pay cut anyway to change roles.

You can ask and negotiate. It usually depends on relevant experience that would make it reasonable for you to jump a spine point - I would imagine a year getting to know everyone would be helpful so could be justified for most roles but it might also depend on budget allowance and sign off.
