How long to wait after application before asking for feedback?

I applied for a job on the 15th January. There was no end date given but it probably disappeared from their website about five days after.

As I have not heard by now, I am assuming that I have been unsuccessful in getting an interview.

I would like to email and ask for feedback, as if a similar job comes up again I would like to apply

Not sure how to go about this? Do I just email and ask for feedback on my application?

It's worth an email but don't be surprised if they don't provide feedback at this stage, given they haven't even let you know your application has not been successful.

Thank you that's what I thought. It's a large organisation so they have probably been inundated.

I wouldn’t bother asking, I doubt very much that they would provide feedback after an application. After an interview, yes, but not on an application.

If it's NHS/Civil Service you might still be in the running. My NHS interview offer was almost 4 weeks after initial applications...and that was firmly pre-covid (no one self isolating etc).

Keep an eye on your inbox but if you don't hear anything at all I wouldn't chase at application stage. Most job applications are overwhelmed at the moment so initial sifting can be quiet brutal.

I'm going to be leave it another week as I've just looked again and it says unsuccessful if not heard within 4 weeks.

But it also says to leave it 6 months before applying for a similar role if you are unsuccessful so I'd like to know what I can work on, as it is something I would like to apply for again in future.

Depending on what kind of work you're seeking and the degree of 'rarity' of your skills et, it could a needle in a haystack asking them for feedback. It could be the role is a popular one with skills that are relatively easy to find and they were inundated with applications.

I would work on the content and presentation of your CV, ensuring it showcases your main skills, attributes and qualifications in the briefest format possible, plus highlight your value-add in each role. Very often, people's applications aren't successful because they don't stand out from the crowd and their CV lacks impact factor.
