Sorry I have to be a bit vague about this as it's outing but my "friend" (not me a close relative) and their spouse have been living off a big inheritance nearly all of their life and not working.
They have done about 5 years work between them and that was abroad so no NI contributions in this country.
Now the money has almost run out and they are near retirement age.
Will they qualify for any kind of state pension as they only have minimal contributions. I can't see that they will get anything at all. They have never claimed benefits or child benefits.

They may qualify for some state pension if they have at least 10 years contributions.
It’s very easy to check www.gov.uk/check-state-pension

Once they are both pension age they can look at maybe applying for pension credit which will top up any state pensions the may get, PC is income based, they can claim it if they have savings under 10k and a household income under whatever the state say they need to live on at the time they apply, bearing in mind depending how much they have and how many years they have left before pension age the DWP can look at their savings and if they decide they are reducing them on purpose in order to qualify for benefits they can treat them as if they still have the money, if they have less than £16k left they could try for universal credit, over 16k and they wont get that
