Secondment question

Hi
I've seen an internal 12 month secondment that I really like the look of and think I have a very good chance of getting. Only issue it's the level below the one I'm currently on.
It's in a slightly different area than I work at the moment but would be brilliant cv wise.
Does anyone know if there are any risks with this move?
Could I lose my original level? Can salary be reduced? I'm presuming that I'd move back to higher level at end of secondment.

Also there is a restructure due in the next 6 months so I'm guessing that I'd either revert back to my old role if the secondment was put at risk or I'd stay in the secondment until the end if my home role was put at risk?

Thanks all

It will all depend on the internal policies of your employer, there won't be anything in law to protect your position. When I did a secondment, the terms, including returning to my original job were all written down.

Thanks @Toorapid
I'm trying to find this information but I'm guessing it's unusual for someone to drop a level for a secondment as all the internal policies seem to talk about moving up a level rather than down.
I'm just not sure if it will look odd on my cv for the future as to why I changed level for 12months.

Would it be obvious from your CV that the secondment was a lower grade? You said the move would be good for your CV?

It's more likely that it would show in the title as in: currently senior accounts manager down to accounts manager but in a different sector which I'm interested in.

I'm just not sure if this looks abit odd as I don't know many people who have done secondments.

Thanks

As mentioned, this isn’t a matter of law but it is about the contract that you agree with your employer. If it is worded as a genuine secondment then your job should be there for you to go back to, but of course there could be a restructure / redundancy situation which would happen whether you are on secondment or not.

Personally though, no I wouldn’t take a secondment to a lower level. I would want a secondment at a higher level with more responsibility and to be challenging and interesting not just interesting.
